Apostrophe

Hard water

Nails on chalkboard

For hours on end

Is what it felt like

To be with him

It was just a nightmare

But it felt like reality

Perhaps partly

Because it once was

Yet I woke up and forgot

Details and demons evaporated

Leaving behind only a faint water stain

Of vague unpleasant feelings

The alarm clock sounds

And my morning routine proceeds:

Peer into the mirror

At a freshly washed face

Wipe away the water stains

The clock ticks onward

The sun rises and sets

The night falls then fades

Time forges forward

And so do I
